I was checking how "Search" works and tried "pov" without success. I tried with other keywords and it works fine (quotient, plot, basis,...).
Was I supposed to do something to index my "pov" entry?

The difference is, that plot, quotient and basis were mentioned in the title, but pov is not mentioned in the title "plotting order ideals". I would suspect that this is the problem, but i am not sure...
perhaps you can find some hints @ http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Search, but I haven't read it...

Searching is usually done via an index table in the database. The table only indexes word with a certain length (usually 4+ charcaters), so "pov" might just be too short. We can check at some point what the minimum length for indexing is, so stay tuned.

"Povray" is not found, too. although it's longer than "plot" and contained in the article. this strictly indicates, that only the titles were searched..

"Povray" is not contained in that article, unless I'm completely blind. "POV-Ray" is in it, but the treatment of the "-" character by the search function is a little bit strange, I think all non-alphanumerical characters are simply ignored - try searching for "pov-dimensional" for example. Searching is done on the Wikitext (the stuff that you are editing) by MySQL and as Michael already said there is a minimum word length for this.
